Power hardware refers to the collective term for metal fittings used in power transmission and distribution systems to connect, secure, and protect conductors and insulators, as well as to facilitate specific functional links between electrical equipment. Although often inconspicuous, these components play an indispensable role in power grids, directly influencing the mechanical strength of lines, their electrical performance, and the long-term reliability of operations.
Based on their primary functions and installation locations, power hardware can be broadly categorized into the following types: suspension hardware, such as suspension clamps, which are primarily used to hang conductors from insulator strings on straight-line towers; strain hardware, including strain clamps, designed to anchor conductors securely to insulator strings on strain towers, bearing the full tension of the conductors; connecting hardware, like U-bolts and ball-end hangers, used to link insulator strings with other hardware components or tower structures; splicing hardware, such as splice sleeves and repair sleeves, employed for joining broken conductor ends or repairing damaged sections; and protective hardware, including vibration dampers and grading rings, which safeguard conductors and insulators against hazards like vibration and corona discharge. Each type of hardware comes with its own specific design standards and installation requirements, ensuring the stability and safety of the entire transmission line structure.
